Banks
The Reserve Bank of India and State Bank of India
have main branches in the city. A number of foreign and scheduled Indian
banks provide services in the city. The foreign banks functioning in the
city include ABN Amro Bank, ANZ Grindlays Bank Ltd, Banque Nationale de
Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd, American Express
International Banking, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Standard
Chartered Bank. Other government participating banks like UTI, ICICI,
HDFC and IDBI also render their services.
The bank timings are usually from 10.30 - 15.30 hrs from Monday through
Friday and from 10.30 - 13.00 hrs on Saturday. Visa, MasterCard and Amex
compatible ATMs abound.
ATM
There are numerous automatic teller machines (ATM) installed throughout
the city. You can draw money from the ATMs if you have a MasterCard, or
a Visa card. But not all ATMs will accept foreign cards even if they
sport Visa and MasterCard signs; you are best advised to enquire first
before sticking your card into the slot. The branches of the Hong Kong
Bank and Bank of America have 24hr ATMs that take Visa and Mastercard,
while some of Standard Chartered Grindlays banks also have
foreigner-friendly ATM machines. HDFC bank has the facility of
withdrawing money from you overseas account. You can use their ATM m/s
to withdraw money in Indian Rupee.
Credit and
debit cards
Most hotels, travel agents, airline offices, commercial establishments
and shops welcome MasterCard, American Express and Visa. Check with your
credit or debit Card Company for details of merchant acceptability and
other services that may be available.
Western Union Money Transfer:
Western Union Money Transfer outlets can be spotted all over the city.
However many banks also have a Western Union counter.
Currency Exchange
Currency can be exchanged at UTI and ICICI Banks in the city. There is a
UTI Bank, ATM and ICICI ATM close to the school. Apart from these banks
money can be exchanged at other authorized foreign currency exchangers.
